Mike, The Last Octopus On The Earth

(prefers to be called as Octorobot)

Humanity has left the Earth. Evil robot sharks, lead by orcas, are ruling the world right now. Octopuses tried to protect themselves from the attack of sharks. Almost all of the octopuses were brutally murdered by these monsters and their technologies were stolen. There is only one last octopus left on the Earth who is smart enough to fight against these monsters. The last octopus on Earth, Mike (prefers to be called Octorobot), is on the verge of death but he isn't the one to go down without a fight. Mike uploads his consciousness to a robot. Unfortunately, he forgot to add proper arms to his robot. To his convenience, the monsters still have the octopus technology and they carry octopus weapons while invading the little remaining land. The Octorobot's goal is to grow his arms as long as he can. May also try to save the Earth ( to his belief at least).

CONTROLS

W-A-S-D to move.

L to end Mike's existential pain.

I think the objective could maybe be stated in the game itself. To add to that, I seen a bunch of useful information about the game on your itch page as a reply to another person.

I could just say general statements like 'make it more fun to kill enemies', 'make the robot arms more interesting', but I think the main thing you should work on is giving the player a sense of purpose. Why am I killing these enemies? How does that impact the player? What do robot arms do? What are these orcas? It seems you have a general storyline or idea about all of that, but it isn't conveyed in a meaningful way, rather than adding length to the arms.

To add a few positives, the arm idea is pretty cool, and congrats on finishing a game! You did what most game developers fail to do, you actually finished a project! I can see the game being pretty fun to revisit, later in your game dev journey, after you make a few more small games, and learn from those experiences. Keep at it! :)

Thank you so much for this detailed comment! We rushed this game for a jam, but since now we are done with it, we will publish an updated version soon :) We'll definitely keep in mind all the things you said!

I'm not entirely sure what I just played but I had a good time doing it! What was I supposed to do and why? Who cares!

Haha thanks for the comment! We watched your stream and noticed a few things. Under normal circumstances, the bullets coming out of the Octorobot's arms should be much faster. Pressing L should kill Octorobot, all the playtesters confirmed this but for some reason it didn't work on your computer. So your stream was really valuable for us to address such issues :)
We also loved your energy!

For what is happening in the game, there are 3 types of enemies, 2 normal ones and 1 boss. If the normal ones have a purple colour, that means that when you kill them, they will drop a weapon that can be attached to an arm of the Octorobot. The goal is to kill as many purple enemies as you can to grow the Octorobot's arms as long as possible!

Again thank you for your comment and including us in your stream! Also, we are glad that you enjoyed Octorobot :)
